‘Cans For Corn’ In Grand Forks Raises A Ton Of Food

After a one-year hiatus due to a poor corn harvest in 2014, Sproule Farms’ “Cans for Corn” event in Grand Forks, N.D. returned this year in a big way to help support The Salvation Army food shelf.

“’Cans for Corn’ was a huge success,” explained Major Jon Fjellman, Grand Forks Salvation Army administrator. “It brought in over a ton of food, 2,433 pounds, and raised another $1,382.”

This is the third year for the fundraiser. Anyone who donates a nonperishable food item or makes a cash contribution will receive a dozen ears of sweet corn from Sproule Farms.

“It reaffirms how much faith I have in our community and how great everyone works together when they see someone is in need,” explained Annie Gorder of Sproule Farms when she was interviewed during a broadcast with WDAZ-TV.

This year, the Wild Hog restaurant also served that sweet corn to customers for free over the two days of the food and fundraiser.

“Thank you to our community and to Sproule Farms for making the event so much fun while helping others,” explained Maj. Fjellman.

The event was held last Wednesday and Thursday at 40th Ave. S. and South 15th St. in Grand Forks.

We are looking to give back to the community, the Sproule Farms way that is!

We want to give our local citizens the change to come and pick FREE SWEET CORN as well as asking for a simple exchange of either a canned or cash donation, which will be allocated to our local Salvation Army.
